Baroque Dance Workshop

We're delighted when we spot dance events coming up in Powys, and this one has us intrigued!  Border Marches Early Music Forum is holding a Baroque Dance Workshop at the Pavilion in Llandrindod Wells on Sunday 23rd October, 10am to 4.30pm.  We asked them to tell us more...

Baroque dance is considered the stylistic predecessor of classical ballet.  Learn the steps of the familiar baroque suite – minuet, sarabande, passacaille etc – and how they both dictate and reflect the emphasis and phrasing in the music.  If you play an instrument you will have the opportunity to experience this both as dancer and musician.
A harpsichordist, Baroque dancer and choreographer, Dr Ricardo Barros performs and teaches in the UK and abroad. Chairman of the EADH - European Association of Dance Historians - his published PhD thesis 'Dance as a Discourse: the rhetorical expression of Passions in French Baroque dance' has had international acclaim.
