Creative Learning

Across the UK 84 per cent of the population fall into either the ‘Little if anything’ or the ‘Now and then’ groups, attending arts activities occasionally at most, and primarily attending the most popular, rather than niche, activities.

Two of the most important factors in determining whether somebody attends arts activities are education and social status – the higher an individual’s level of education and social status, the more likely they are to have high levels of arts attendance, for many this creates barriers to attending arts activities.

In Powys there are also barriers around the distances to travel to arts spaces and poor public transport. Impelo believes that our work in schools is at the heart of our ambition to nurture the dancers and dance audiences of tomorrow.

With 96% of children attending school we think dance offers unique ways to help all children to excel, including the most gifted and talented and the most vulnerable or disadvantaged - boosting children’s confidence, stimulating their appetite for learning, and narrowing the gap between the most disadvantaged and the rest.

Between April 2021 and February 2023 we have delivered 476 sessions with 10243 pupils in early years, primary, SEND and secondary schools.  Our work connected pupils with the joy of dance and movement to improve literacy, communication and wellbeing, and empowered teachers to use dance across the curriculum in fresh and creative ways.
